Canola

Canola, a cultivar of rapeseed, is most frequently used in animal feed, vegetable oil, and biodiesel. The name “Canola” is derived from the combination of “Canadian Oil, Low-Acid.”

Canola & Renewable Energy

  • Preferred biodiesel feedstock with the the highest oil yield per acre currently available in oilseed crops
  • High demand in the development of renewable energy sources

Production
Originally, canola was primarily grown in Canada, particularly Saskatchewan. Today, canola production has expanded to include the Northern U.S., Europe and Australia.

Attributes

  • Disease resistant – minimal pesticides needed
  • Drought tolerant – grows in dry climates
  • High oil content – ~40% of seed weight
  • Low levels of fat and acid – better raw material for biodiesel

Targeted Growth Canola

  • Multi-year, multi-location trials across the U.S. and Canada
  • The backbone of Targeted Growth’s oilseed research since 2003
